He’s one of the best players in the midwest, regardless of what class he’s in. Malaki Branham, he attends St. Vincent’s-St. Mary’s High School in Ohio, former home of one of the greatest basketball players of all-time, Lebron James.
According to 247Sports, Branham is currently ranked 25th overall in the 2021 class and is standing at 6-Foot-4 and is the top-ranked player in the state of Ohio. He holds offers from Alabama, Ohio State, Xavier, Mizzou, Louisville, and others.
He’s taken an official visit to Ohio State as well as an unofficial visit to Louisville, Branham says both of those programs are still involved as well as many others.
“The schools that have most been in contact have been Louisville, Ohio State, Alabama, Xavier, Cincinnati, Missouri, & Marquette (new school mentioned later).”
Branham mentioned Marquette, which is a new school in his recruitment. He touched upon that new interest further:
“Marquette is the newest of anyone that’s been in contact with me. They’ve stayed in touch and we’ve been working a time to get there to a game if the time & schedule allows it to happen.”
On October 6th, Branham took his first official visit, to Ohio State. Current commit Kalen Etzler told Stockrisers.com in his commitment interview that he will be on Branham hard.
So, what did he think about his visit to Columbus?
“OSU was fun, I got to attend a dinner in which players (past & present) came and they offered me some good advice and told me about how things are done at OSU. I got to attend the game versus Michigan State, it was a night game and it was a black out so the atmosphere was really crazy and got everybody going.”
While on the topic of visits, he told me where else he’d like to visit. “There are a couple visits that me and my uncle are currently working on, just trying to find the time to make it happen since the season has began. Louisville, Alabama, & Xavier are looking to get me on campus.”
As for his basketball season, it’s just getting underway. Branham touched upon the upcoming basketball season to cap off my conversation with him.
“I am definitely ready for the high school season. We have a loaded schedule and I’m ready to help lead our team and get another state championship. The main goal is to win a state championship, we got there last year after being moved up a division and think we can definitely accomplish that same goal this year with a different outcome.”
