Jalen Suggs talks his summer, USA Basketball, and more

This summer for Jalen Suggs involved a lot of traveling. The 5 star point guard from Minneapolis, Minnesota hold offers from Gonzaga, Marquette, Minnesota, and many other division one schools. Suggs talked with me about how his summer went and his recruitment going into his senior year of high school.

This past weekend Slam hosted their second annual event at Dyckman park in New York City. “It was amazing” Suggs stated. “The energy from the whole weekend, being able to travel around the city on the double decker bus, the environment, the whole weekend was great”. “We got to go to Rucker Park and watch the NY vs NY event and that was also a really cool experience”.

Suggs also made the roster for Team USA’s U19 team. “Every time I play with Team USA I grow as a player on and off the court”. He was one of the few players on this team who are from the class of 2020. “Their were a lot of older guys, and guys with college experience that gave me some good advice” Suggs told me. Playing with the U19 team gives Suggs the opportunity to work on his game, and go against and practice with some of the best talent in the world. “It was a blessing to go out and win my third gold medal”.

I talked with Jalen about his recruitment so far. “I talk to the most Gonzaga, best relationship with them as coaches go”. Tommy Lloyd an assistant at Gonzaga has been keeping close contact with Suggs throughout the summer. “It’s still open” Suggs tells me on the process of his recruitment. ” I Got Marquette in the mix, Iowa, Minnesota of course”. Every school in the nation would be lucky to land a player like Suggs, his all round talent and IQ for the game makes him a very special player. “When the time is right I will make my decision”.

Steph Curry holds his annual elite camp every summer. Last year due to injury Suggs could not participate, but this year he was full go. “It was a great experience being able to learn from Steph and actually play with and against him”. With this camp being towards the end of summer Jalen told me that it was “just a fun time being with all my guys one last time as AAU season was coming to an end”.

Suggs who is actually an outstanding football player as well tells me he is “Strictly focused on football” as of now. He does want to take some visits though when he finds some time. “I want to get back to Gonzaga, want to get to Florida, and Iowa State too”.

Suggs will be looking to win back to back state championships with his football team. As soon as the season is over, be on the lookout for the top ranked point guard to be taking some visits and making a statement his senior year on the basketball court as well.
