Karim Mane discusses NBA option, recruitment, his play at UAA

Karim Mane might be the biggest breakout story of the spring/summer. The Canadian guard landed 15+ offers over the past two months and it only continues to get better for Mane.

With Canada Elite on the Under Armour Circuit, Mane was one of the circuits top performers all spring. He also was playing at the FIBA U19’s where he showcased his abilities to the entire world and against some major competition. Ultimately, he was one of the top performers during the FIBA’s.

Here’s what he had to say on his play from this summer at UAA:

“UAA was great this summer, I feel like I got a chance to really showcase what I can do and played well. The last session was tough for me because I had just came back from Greece and didn’t give my body a chance to rest which led to me not being able to play at 100%. Some of my coaches didn’t want me to play but for me it was the last session and I wanted to compete. Overall it was a great summer for me,” Mane told Stockrisers.

In addition, Mane recently discovered that he has the option to be eligible for the 2020 draft. Here’s his take on that possibility:

“The NBA is the main goal for me and the opportunity I have in front of me is interesting but school is also very important for me and my family. So for now, I’m just focus on going to college.

What does Mane want in a program?

“I am taking my time with my decision, but as soon as I know where I want to go I’ll commit. For me I’m looking to go somewhere where I can have a big impact right away by playing my position and play major minutes. The schools style of play is also important. I want to play at a fast pace and be put in a lot of ball screens in the half court and be able to make plays. Another thing that’s big for me is the relationship I have with the head coach.”

While on the topic of relationships with head coaches, one of the coaches that went to Greece for the FIBA U19’s and watched Mane was Maryland’s Mark Turgeon. The two have built a really good relationship, and Mane took his lone official visit to College Park in May.

Mane wants to take all of his visits prior to making a decision, he doesn’t have any idea when he will cut list or plan/take any other visits.

— The latest school to reach out to him was Kentucky. He hasn’t spoken with John Calipari yet but I wouldn’t be shocked if he does. They began recruiting him while he was in Greece.
