Taylor Bigby is ranked as the ninth best guard in the Class of 2021, per ESPN and currently holds over 25 offers from colleges. These offers include Oregon, Louisville, USC, and Ohio State among others. Look for Bigby, ranked as high as the top 15 players in her class, to continue raking in offers.
At Centennial High School in Las Vegas, Bigby is a leader on the best squad in Nevada, and a top ten group nationally. She plays for Cal Sparks on the EYBL circuit in her free time and her father, Lamar Bigby, is the founder for the Las Vegas Knicks men’s AAU program.
Ellie Lieberman chatted with Bigby, currently a 6’0 sophomore, to discuss her recruitment.
When did you know basketball was something you wanted to pursue?
I was always around basketball because my dad’s an AAU coach. I’ve learned to never be mediocre.
What’s the basketball culture like at Centennial High School?
We’re always targeted. No one wants to see us win because we always win. I don’t think we have a rival in Vegas.
What do you think makes you different than any other player?
A lot of the times in basketball, people worry about scoring. For me it’s like, if I’m not scoring or having a good day, there are other things I can do. Whether it can be assisting my teammates, playing good defense, we focus on offense so much. When we play good defense, the offense will come.
When you have free time, what basketball do you watch?
I mostly watch college, PAC-12 basketball. Growing up, I’ve always wanted to go to UConn, I’ve always followed them. But with my recruiting process, I’ve been watching all the schools I have offers from. I’ve been watching USC, UConn, Oregon, different schools like Arizona…
What did it mean to have UConn watch you?
It kind of makes me nervous, not gonna lie. I think it’s a good opportunity, it’s something I’ve always dreamed of. I would’ve never thought that any of these top colleges would be at my games.
What’s your daily routine like?
I stay in the gym all the time. I rarely ever get to be like a normal teenager. I don’t like being away from basketball for too long. When you’re not working, someone else is.
What schools have you visited?
I haven’t been to a lot of them. I’ve been to USC, Arizona, UNLV, UCLA.
What sticks out to you about the schools you’ve visited?
I look [to see] if I’m gonna fit their system, if it’s somewhere I could see myself being for four years. I always look at the coaches. Is it strictly business or do the coaches care for you outside of basketball? Will they be there for you all the time?
Are there any schools you’re hoping to visit?
I’m hoping to visit Ohio State, Michigan, Oregon, Louisville.
What player do you model your game after?
I just love Kevin Durant. He’s a walking bucket. No one can stop him. He’s very long, he’s a guard too.
