This summer 2020 four-star DJ Steward announced he’d transfer from Fenwick High to Whitney Young, a move that would affect the entire state. Last night Steward faced off with Mater Dai, one of the top team’s on the West Coast. It was the debut for Steward on the big stage, with over 5 coaches on hand for him he didn’t disappoint. Steward dropped 25 points and helped Whitney Young get the win.
After his matchup with Mater Dai, Steward took time to discuss the latest in his recruitment and which schools are on him the hardest.
What schools are on you the hardest?
Illinois: “Illinois, it’s an in-state school so they are pushing really hard to get me. I haven’t visited them yet but I’m looking forward to.”
Northwestern: “Northwestern is pushing hard to get me as well to stay at home. I took an unofficial there and the coaches were really nice and down to earth, all the facilities were brand new as well which was cool.”
DePaul: “At DePaul they want me to stay home as well and come right in and play to put on for the city. They’re actually one of a couple schools that first started recruiting me.”
Louisville: “Louisville contacts me a lot and I haven’t visited, but I’m looking forward to getting down there in the near future.”
Notre Dame: “Notre Dame, I’ve been on campus a couple times it’s a really nice campus. The assistant coaches stay in contact with me a lot and have visited our school a couple times to see practices/open gym.”
Next, Steward said once he begins taking visits the first two schools he’d like to get to are Louisville and Illinois.
