Tom Izzo and his staff picked up a verbal commitment from 2019 four-star Rocket Watts last month which was his first commitment for his 2019 class. Just about one month later Malik Hall of Sunrise Christian Academy verbally committed to Michigan State.
With the commitment from Hall it gives Izzo two top-50 prospects and my prediction and probably everybody’s, he isn’t done just yet. The day he picked up a commitment from Hall he made his next move and had an in-home visit with 2019 five-star Trayce Jackson-Davis. Many people have Jackson-Davis as a lock to his local Indiana Hoosiers but for me, that isn’t the case just yet.
Staying on the topic of big men that Tom Izzo’s recruiting one that I feel would be a safe bet at joining Watts and Hall would be Isaiah Stewart. Last year Izzo lost big man Jaren Jackson to the NBA draft and Stewart said this to Democrat and Chronicle: “He feels like I can come in and have the same impact that Jaren did, while also winning,” Stewart said.
Stewart also recently postponed his official visit to Duke that was set for this weekend, according to reports it should be getting rescheduled. As for his other visits, one that stood out positively was Syracuse which went well. After his visit to Syracuse a few weeks later his close friend and former travel teammate, Syracuse native, Joe Girard committed to the Orange.
Then you take a look at another top-5 big man, Vernon Carey. He’s coming off official visits to Duke and Miami, he also is at UNC for his official to Roy Williams this weekend. Many remember earlier in the year Vernon Carey took his first official visit, who received that first visit? Tom Izzo and the Spartans.
Recently 247Sports analyst Evan Daniels reported that Carey will take another visit down to East Lansing the second week of November. It’s been known for months he’s wanted to schedule another visit to Michigan State even though he officially visited in February and unofficially visited on multiple occasions.
Finally, Keion Brooks who is recently coming off visits to Indiana and Kentucky. He visited UCLA officially in September and is at UNC this weekend and is slated to be down at Michigan State on November 16th.
Many think this one is currently down to Kentucky and Indiana after a good visit down in Lexington. I wouldn’t be surprised if that changes after the official visit down to Michigan State in two weeks. With Rocket Watts being more of a one and Brooks being able to play 1-3 and is more of a ball handler I can’t see Izzo giving up on Brooks.
Where I stand: I believe that Izzo will land one of these guys. My safest bet as of now is Isaiah Stewart/Trayce Jackson-Davis, with the other guys it seems that other landing spots are more suitable but wouldn’t count anything out.
