With October just beginning, the early signing period nearby (kinda) many questions are asked and we have the answers. Here’s this weeks addition of Stockrisers Mailbag.
This is a question that I’ve been seeing all over my timeline. With Aidan Igiehon coming off of his Louisville visit all signs have been towards another big Chris Mack commitment. Many are thinking it is a done deal, could be the case, maybe not. “I haven’t made my decision yet,” Igiehon told Stockrisers, he also added there isn’t a timeline just yet.
Many believe that it’s a close race between Oregon and obviously Louisville. There’s also the group that believes Aidan is waiting on a heavy pursuit from Kentucky. Coach Cal and his staff have been recruiting many 2019 big’s which include top-ranked bigs Vernon Carey, James Wiseman, Isaiah Stewart, Matthew Hurt, just to name a few.
Coming off an OV to Kentucky, it looks like the Cats could potentially get a commitment from Isaiah Stewart who had an “excellent” visit. With them [Cats] possibly getting Stewart and also a good shot with James Wiseman that could conclude the Cat’s recruitment of Igiehon.
My prediction still remains in favor of him going to Louisville who already has a top-3 class for 2019.
This question, the answer, really good. Of these three I’d keep the focus on Vernon Carey. The top-ranked big in the 2019 class speaks very highly of Coach Izzo and the Spartans. Remember when February came around this year Carey took his first official to Michigan State and has visited very often on an unofficial basis. Chances are he returns unofficially before making his decision.
With Malik Hall, he closed up his visit with the Spartans this weekend. Will finish his official visits with a trip to Eugene next weekend. In this recruitment, besides the Spartans, you have to keep an eye on Purdue and Oregon, both have actively been recruiting Hall for a very long time. Could potentially see a late-October or November decision for Hall.
Isaiah Stewart is still an option for the Spartans but coming off his last official visit down in Lexington I’d give the Cats a slight edge on this one. As for the Spartans and other targets keep an eye out on Keion Brooks and Trayce Jackson-Davis.
Coming off his first official visit to Marquette nothing else is currently planned (yet) for Zeb Jackson. The 2020 four-star prospect named a final-7 of Michigan, Michigan State, Arizona State, Marquette, Butler, Ohio State, and Purdue earlier this month.
For me right now I’d keep an eye out on Michigan and Ohio State, both actively pursuing Jackson. With the 2019 class for the Buckeyes finished up after picking up EJ Liddell last week the focus now is on Jackson. This month and last month he visited both UM and OSU, unofficially, and is on both campuses often with him living close.
Last month Jackson became Michigan’s first 2020 offer, a big one for Beilein and his staff who rarely offers out of the blue. It shows Jackson is a top-priority and major target for the Wolverines.
You can’t count out Chris Holtmann or Tom Izzo in this one. Both have built great relationships with Jackson, especially the Buckeyes who have been on Jackson for a while. No prediction for me yet.
Arizona. It’s a done deal for me, with Josh Green, Nico Mannion, and Christian Koloko I think Armstrong would be a great fit for this class. Sean Miller has visited him multiple times, the official visit this past weekend went well, plus Arizona is a guard-heavy team, adding a big with Armstrong’s caliber could be huge for Sean Miller.
This wouldn’t complete Arizona’s class, they have a good shot at landing Jeremiah Robinson-Earl who is teammates with recent Arizona commit, Josh Green.
No timeline just yet for Tshiebwe who took his official visit to West Virginia this past weekend. I had high hopes in Illinois who has made a big push for Oscar for quite some time but I’ve steered my prediction to Bob Huggins and West Virginia.
According to many, his visit to Morgantown went really well. Going back to Kentucky and the 2019 big situation it’s likely they pick up one or maybe two bigs in the near future. With that being said it’s possible West Virginia seals the deal with Tshiebwe.
