Niels Lane is a 6-3, 175-pound Point Guard from Princeton, NJ.
Recently Lane and his recruitment has caught the attention of many high school basketball fans around the high school community.
Lane’s first unofficial came in September when the New Jersey guard took an unofficial visit to Temple. Visit after that was a quick trip up to Villanova for the teams late night event. But a week later is where all the madness began for Lane.
His talent caught the attention of UConn head coach, Kevin Ollie.
Ollie hosted Lane for an unofficial visit the first week of October, a month later Lane was invited for another one and that’s when he picked up the offer from UConn.
One day prior to the UConn visit/offer, Lane took his first unofficial to Providence, where he eventually picked up an offer from Ed Cooley.
I asked Lane about his UConn/Providence visits, here’s what he had to say:
“It [UConn] was tough. Practice was intense. They practiced in the arena that day since they had a game the next day. The basketball facilities are huge state of the art “basketball sanctuaries”. I loved it”
“Providence was great. Coach Cooley is a great guy, funny , and an intense coach as well. The coaching staff were fully locked in to my visit and toured me around the beautiful campus”
One thing that stands out about Lane, if you speak with him and ask you about recruitment, you’d expect an enthusiastic answer, because hey! which kid wouldn’t love visiting these schools and getting all the attention. But his recruitment isn’t his focus right now.
“I was told that once my recruitment started, it was all going to come so fast and im just now experiencing that. So im just trying to take things slow and not direct all of my focus too my recruitment because if i do what im supposed to do on and off the court then schools will take notice”
Stay on the lookout for this kid, he is gonna be on the map very soon.
